How the two words are related

Loanword

Borrowed between the languages (or by both from a third).

Abjad spells the first four letters in the old Semitic order — alif, bāʾ, jīm, dāl — exactly Hebrew א-ב-ג-ד. Both languages inherited that order (and the letter names) from the Phoenician–Aramaic alphabet: Hebrew names its alphabet after the first two letters, Arabic after the first four.
