Privacy Policy

Effective September 30, 2026

The short version: you can use Hebrabic without an account. Then it sets no cookies, and your progress lives only in your browser. Accounts are optional, for sync, Pro, and classes; signing in sets one strictly necessary cookie that keeps you signed in, and nothing else. No ads, no tracking cookies, and we never sell your data. To learn which lessons and drills actually help, we count anonymous, cookieless usage statistics that can't identify you.

What stays on your device

Hebrabic stores your flashcard scheduling, quiz history, completed lessons, display preferences (learning direction, spoken dialect, transliteration mode, vowel marks, the half-and-half script and its fold), and the interface language you picked in your browser's localStorage. Unless you sign in, this saved progress is never transmitted to us or to anyone else — it exists only in the browser you're using right now. If you sign in, it's copied to your account, as described below.

What this site doesn't do

  • No account needed: everything free works without signing up.
  • No cookies unless you sign in, and then only the one that keeps you signed in.
  • No tracking across sites, no fingerprinting, no advertising profiles.
  • No advertising and no advertising trackers.
  • We never sell your data or share it for advertising.

If you create an account

Accounts are optional. You need one only to sync across devices, for Pro, or to join a class.

What we store

Your name and email address; your password as a one-way hash if you set one (or a link to your Google account if you sign in with Google); your sessions, with the IP address and browser they came from, for security; your learning progress, copied into your account when you sign up and kept in sync if you have Pro; your activity while signed in (which drills and lessons you did, when, and your scores); the classes and schools you belong to; and your plan and subscription status.

Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. You enter card details on Stripe's own pages, and they never touch our servers. We keep only a Stripe customer ID and your subscription's plan, status, and dates. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Email

Sign-in links and other account emails are sent through Resend, which receives your email address to deliver them. See Resend's privacy policy. We don't send marketing email.

Classes

When you join a class, its teacher (and, for a school, the school's admins) can see your name, your email address, and your activity in drills and lessons from the moment you join, never from before. You can leave a class from your Account page at any time.

Your data, your control

Download everything we store about you, or delete your account, from the Account page. Deleting your account removes your profile, cloud progress, and class activity; cancel a running subscription first. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires.

Audio

Audio comes from two places: recordings by native speakers, served from our storage, and — where no recording exists yet — your browser's built-in speech synthesis. Speaking practice uses your microphone only when you tap it: your browser records you and sends the audio to its maker's speech service (in Chrome, for example, Google's) to turn it into text. Hebrabic receives only that text, uses it to score you on the page, and never stores your voice; your practice scores stay in this browser. Speakers who record in our studio upload their recordings to us under a separate agreement.

Fonts

All fonts are bundled with the site and served from the same domain. Your browser makes no requests to Google Fonts or any other third-party font service when you use Hebrabic.

Anonymous usage statistics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to see which pages people visit, how fast they load, and how learning features are used — for example, when a lesson is marked complete, a quiz or flashcard session is finished (with its score), a word is searched for or shared, audio is played, or a display setting is changed. These counts help us fix confusing lessons and add missing words.

Both tools are cookieless. They don't store anything on your device, don't follow you across other websites, and don't build a profile of you. Visits are grouped using a short-lived hash that resets every day, so we can't recognize you when you come back. These tools never receive your saved progress or account details — only the anonymous events listed above. See Vercel's analytics privacy notes.

Hosting

The site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes standard technical request data (such as IP addresses and browser user agents) in transient server logs in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. See Vercel's privacy policy for details. Beyond the anonymous statistics and the account data described in this policy, we add no logging or data collection of our own.

Your choices

Without an account, clear this site's data in your browser (site settings → clear data) to erase everything Hebrabic knows about you; it resets your progress instantly and completely, and the anonymous statistics can't be linked back to you. With an account, clearing browser data signs you out but doesn't delete your account: use Download my data and Delete account on the Account page.

About the content

Hebrabic is a free educational resource for learning Modern Standard Arabic (with spoken Levantine, Egyptian, or Moroccan notes) through Hebrew — and, in its mirrored mode, everyday Modern Hebrew through Arabic. The content is provided as-is, with care but without warranty — if you spot a mistake, we'd genuinely like to fix it.

Changes & contact

If this policy ever changes (for example, if the site gains features that need it), the changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Questions or corrections are welcome via moshemalka.com or Quentin.Code.
